Chun Kuk Do - The Universal Way
from Tae Kwon Do what was called when he started in Korea in 1960 as "Tang Su Do", "Tang Soo Do" or "Dang Su Do"

Written in western countries "Tang Su Do", "Tang Soo Do" or "Dang Su Do", is the Korean denomination of a classic martial art whose origin can be traced in the Far East: MU-DO (Korean), WU-TAO (Chinese), BU-DO (Japanese).

"MU DO", in western languages, has been erroneously translated and unfortunately accepted by the majority as "Martial Art", thus meaning that TANG SU DO should be an "ART OF WAR", which is partially true, considering the use of this discipline, effectively applied in the wars of Korea (1950-53) and Vietnam (1960 ca. -1975). This reductive meaning of Tang Su Do presents us a violent image: the use of hands and feet as weapons to defend from - or attack - an enemy.
The true-meaning of MU DO is instead, literally, "the way to stop the conflict", thus a discipline of survival following the principle of "non-violence".
